'Swinging Carnaby', a weekend celebration of exhibitions, music and shopping to celebrate Carnaby in the 60s, hits London over the weekend of 13th and 14th June. Visitors will be able to take in live bands such as Connett and Red Track, not to mention treating themselves to psychedelic body-painting or a 60s makeover.
Central to the celebrations is Philip Townsend's pop-up exhibition at 29 Fouberts Place – just next to Carnaby Street – where he will be signing copies of his new book and displaying his photographs of The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Twiggy and many other 60s icons. Signings take place on 13th and 14th June, but the exhibition will run until 5th July. You'll also be able to choose from a range of limited edition posters, greetings cards and postcards, all featuring stunning images from Philip's archive.
The exhibition is sponsored by Silver Shutter Books, Carnaby London, Newburgh Quarter Carnaby, Asahi and the cutting-edge British Music Experience at the O2 Arena. Copies of Philip Townsend – The Limited Editions will also be on sale at the British Music Experience, and if you print out a copy of this promotional flyer you and a friend will be able to get into this fully-interactive music experience for only £10 each.
So, if you're in London between 13th June and 5th July, be sure to visit Fouberts Street and drop into Philip's exhibition. If you don't, you'll certainly be sorry you missed the 60s!
